New Apprenticeship Class Builds Stronger Future for Local 214

Investing in the Next Generation

Local 214 officially opened its 2025 Apprenticeship & Skills Training Program this week, marking a renewed commitment to hands-on education and career advancement in the building trades.
Program Director Maria Lopez stated, “Every apprentice represents the future strength of our workforce. Our goal is not only to train them but to prepare them for leadership roles in the field.”

Modern Facilities and Certified Instructors

The upgraded Training Center now features:

  • A new welding simulator lab

  • Expanded safety training classrooms

  • Digital blueprint stations with AR modules

All instructors are OSHA-certified journey-level professionals with 15+ years of trade experience.

Enrollment and Program Structure

The 18-month program combines classroom instruction with paid on-the-job training. Apprentices receive certifications in:

  • Rigging & Hoisting Safety

  • Blueprint Reading

  • Advanced Concrete Finishing

Applications for the next intake open March 1, 2025. Interested candidates can apply through the Apprenticeship Portal or contact their local training coordinator.

Testimonials from Graduates

“I joined the program with zero field experience and now work full-time on commercial projects,” said Derrick Nguyen, 2023 graduate.
“The mentoring I received changed my career path entirely.”

Union Leadership Message

President James Holloway congratulated new enrollees, emphasizing unity and continued learning:

“The tools change, but our values don’t—safety, skill, and solidarity will always define who we are.”
